RE: alternator..stock or ho
I will tell you right now do not buy a cap. You will be waisting your money and shortening your alternator life. Do your big 3, run 0 gauge across the car and get like a Kinetik HC1400 for under the hood and you will be good.
BTW low car voltage (DC) has nothing to do with amps clipping.

um yeah it does, when a amp trys to exced it's rails it sends a square wave to your speakers. if low voltage doesent matter why do all the SPL guys run a bank of batterys? clipping can come from your deck or low voltage iv'e seen more then a dozen subs come back blown from running low voltage. iv'e never upgraded a charging system and still had issues blowing subs. .....thats just my opinion iv'e only been doing this for 10 years

Your battery should be fine if it is in good condition. If it has jsut about had it, get a new one. That alt sounds alright. And the727kid, why don't you just not talk for a while. You come on here with your misleading opinions and dick everyone around. Seriously. And yes, get a cap. If it was a waste of money, you wouldnt find them in SPL cars, would you.

LMAO, my misleading opinion, why don't you go read www.bcae1.com and learn a lil something.
I have never EVER seen a cap in a true SPL car. They run banks of batteries because more voltage to an amp = more watts. In fact only time I see caps in cars is when a shop does the install to some guy that knows nothing at all to make an extra $50 off him or it is some kid with no knowledge, he probally owns Xplods or Audiobahns too .
And you don't need a crazy battery but a redtop would probally be good.

well one of my friends used to have a system with 2 W7's each with a 1000/1 amp and a 450/4 amp for this boston acoustics speakers..he didn't have a special battery or alternator just a ...10 or 20 farad (i cna't remember) cap. and everything was fine for him.
and i do know quite a bit about this car audio stuff and i do kno that more voltage to an amp does not equal more watts...that just doesn't make sense....more voltage to an amp doesn't do anything...unless u turn the gain up to allow to am to take in more voltage...which this leads to clipping if its not set right for the speakers and head unit..

Lol you obviously know VERY little. You are confusing pre-out voltage with actual DC voltage that powers the amp.
So according to you, all amps have a regulated power supply like JL amps. If an amp is rated for 1000watts @ 14.4, it will give me 1000watts at 12.8, I don't think so. If you were correct why would be people put amps on 16 and 18 volt electrical systems??

but if an amp's gains are setup so that it will only output 900w at 12.8v.. and then you put 14.4v to the amp. itsnot going to put out more than 900w.
thats what he was saying.
