Default Alpine SPX-17REF vs SPR-17S .. thoughts?

Gah can't seem to order anything this year without a hassle. Tried to get me some SPR-17S's from onlinecarstereo, and of course they're back ordered.

The rep said he'd get me the SPX-17REF's for a discounted price (not much more than the 17S's) cause they are in stock, but I'm skeptical. Anyone listened to the 17REF's vs the 17S's? The 17REF's are hella more expensive..

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome before I pull the trigger

Thanks guys

i've never heard them before, but i'm willing to bet that if you have 2 similar component setups from the same company, the more expensive of the two is probably better.

Well I don't have the 17s's but I do have 17C's which are the non component version of the S's. They sound really really really good, so the s's will be even better. So, maybe they might have those in stock, I got mine from there last year.

well i might be late on commenting but the type x's would be better for sure my friend has them and they are crystal clear but he was quite angry when the crossovers started to fall apart they still work but for what you pay for a set he was mad so personally i would go with some non components

I would vote for the SPX Pros. A buddy of mine replaced the so called high end JL Audio speakers in his 07 350z with some SPX pros, per my recommendation, and he is VERY pleased with them!
