95 Headlight Warning Chime Mod?

95 Headlight Warning Chime Mod?
I'd like to wire in a headlight warning chime to my 95 civic. I've noticed that Radio Shack has a chime unit for about $10. Has anybody done this mod or have any ideas?
I was thinking about trying to use the interior dash instrumentation light circuit wire somehow. Perhaps I could connect it to a door switch to make a ground when the door is open?
Another way would just be to link the headlights into a relay that turns off with the key. I don't see why I would need to have the headlights on without the key in the ignition.

For 92-95, there was an optional headlight warning chime. That being said, all you have to do it get the chime from radio shack and hook it up.
Remove the driver's side kick panel and also the metal saftey brace that is behind the kick panel. On the fuse box, towards the top, it a series of 5 emtpy male prongs. You simply hook the chime to the 4th and 5th prongs.
With the key OUT of the ignition, turn you headlights on. If it doesn't chime switch the wires, the polarity might be wrong.
Good Luck!

95 DX with no factory lights on warning = a few dead batteries....
I did exactly what you're wanting to do.Go buy the radio shack buzzer. The smaller the buzzer usually the higher pitch sound. I got the "medium" sized one that is about the diameter of a quarter. Put some double sided tape on it and stick it up under the dash just above the fuse box. Hook the black wire to you wiper fuse (#14) and and the red wire to your tail light fuse (#19). If you leave your lights on (even just parking lights) and turn the key off, the buzzer will remind you every time. Had mine on for well over a year. Have been very glad to have it more than once for sure.

RE: 95 Headlight Warning Chime Mod?
I had it explained to me that you should put the buzzer on a fused connection in case the buzzer burns up. I didn't understand at the time, but seeing the connection on 4 and 5 might be what they were talking about. Would it really do anything bad if the buzzer shorted out on an "un fused" connection. And is the buzzer really going through a fuse on 14 and 19? I'm curious, plugging it in to the extra open connection seems so much cleaner and easier. I probably won't crawl under to change mine, but just something to ask about for the archives so it will be there when somebody searches....

Hi folks. I've got a '95 Civic VX and killed my battery the other day by leaving the headlights on without knowing it. I wondered if the car came with a warning chime for headlights or not. From reading previous posts, it looks like the car didn't come with one.
So I tried the modification mentioned... I purchased a "12VDC Chime" from Radio Shack, item # 273-0071 and installed it. However the mod wasn't perfect, so I was hoping for advice from folks.
Previous posts mentioned to connect the chime between prongs 4 & 5. Upon looking at the photos, they appeared to be the prongs farthest to the right. However, those prongs are labeled "2" and "3" on my car. On my car, from left to right, they are numbered 4, 5, 1, 2, 3. I tryed installing the chime on my 4 & 5, but nothing happened. So then I installed the chime on my 2 & 3 (the ones furthest on the right) and it worked, but only sort of. The chime was way weaker sounding than it was when I connected it directly to the battery. With a voltmeter, there was only 7.5 volts or so passing between those terminals when the chime was activating. Without the chime (with the lights on), there was 11.7 volts between those terminals. The open battery voltage at the battery (with the lights on) was 12.4.
My problem, in short, is the very weak sounding chime. I was hoping for it to sound like it does when it gets full battery voltage, nice and crisp and loud.
Does anybody have any idea why I'm experiencing this problem? Thanks.
